He is a 2002 graduate of Llano High School and a 2007 graduate of Tarleton State University.

The bride to be is the daughter of Cheryl and Lee Newman, of Belton, and Robert and Teal Stahl, of Idaho Falls. The groom to be is the son of Leroy and Diane Haggerton, of Llano and Herbie Lynn.

James and Elaine Wheat, of Belton, and Vaughn and Melinda Ward, of Llano, announce the engagement of their children, Katy Wheat and Travis Ward. Katy graduated with a BFA degree in Art in 2005 from Mary Hardin-Baylor. Travis graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2005 with degrees from the University of Texas in Radio/TV/Film and in History.

Mourners line route of Buchanan Dam soldier’s cortège

As the funeral procession of Sergeant Mark Allen Stone left Calvary Hill Full Gospel Church on Wednesday morning, the entire staff of the Kingsland Library and many business owners came to the roadside to stand, hands over their hearts. Passengers in the stopped automobiles stepped out to stand with respect or salute the cortège.

Local elections usher in new leaders

When the May 10 election ballots were tallied, contested races in the cities of Llano and Sunrise Beach Village were decided as well as in the Kingsland Municipal Utility District Board of Directors. New Llano City Council Members will be Mike Reagor (282 votes), Mike Hazel (281 votes) and LaNell McKinney (195 votes).

The Llano County Commissioners Court on Monday voted to supplement a donation from the Hill Country 100 Club to improve equipment for Department of Public Safety Troopers and commissioners agreed to seek a sizeable new grant -- $466,000 to upgrade radio equipment for county fire departments. Troopers Eric Morgan and Brian Barnes were on hand to explain that the 100 Club, a non-profit organization to support law enforcement, had agreed to pay about $680 for grill guards for patrol cars assigned to Llano County.

Annie Lee Bucklew, 89, of Kingsland, passed away May 8. She was born to William Neal and Ada Lee (Nichols) Matthews on Oct. 5, 1918, in Shelby County.

Janet Bloxham Hayes, 59, of Llano, passed away Friday, May 9 in San Antonio. She was born on June 21, 1948, to Mildred Viola (VanDusseldorp) and Raymond Joseph Bloxham in Hampton, Iowa.

LaRhesa Lee McNair, 96, of Kingsland passed away Thursday, May 8, in Bryan. She was born on Dec. 7, 1911, to Cenia (Ricketson) and Frank L.

U. S. Army Specialist Jeffrey Franklin Nichols,of Granite Shoals, killed in Baghdad, Iraq on May 1, was born Sept.

Stan Rountree, who handles residential dock inspections, will outline the Lower Colorado River Authority’s dock rules at the May 20 meeting of the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corp. LCRA rules changed in 2004 and Rountree will talk about what is required for a boat dock, or other lake facility, to be “grandfathered” under the regulations.

The Llano Uplift Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently celebrated its 12th birthday with a business meeting and luncheon at the River City Grille in Marble Falls. New officers were installed, a new member was inducted, and Mary Stevens was honored on her birthday.

The Hill Country Livestock Raisers held their 58th Annual Banquet on Saturday, May 3 at the Llano Community Center. Mr.

National Nursing Home Week is May 11 through May 17. This week recognizes nurses for their continued dedication to patients and the quality care they perform. Please join us in thanking these caring professionals during their week of May and every day.

Kaitlyn Newell, Kassie Stefan and Clare Tucker recieved exemplary achievement at the Texas State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held on the University of Houston’s Clear Lake campus. More than 17,500 students participated in the 20 regional VASE events.

Llano’s Third Annual Texas Proud Festival and Shoot Em Up Contest is just a couple of weeks away and the excitement is building. Re-enactors from as far away as California will be competing for prizes and braging rights at Badu Park along the banks for our beautiful Llano River.
