Diplomas were awarded to 5,484 Texas A&M University graduates during mid-term commencement ceremonies for the 2007-08 academic year. Sarah Louise Barkley, of Llano, received a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the Spring 2008 semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance. The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours during the fall semester who have maintained a 3.

Jason and Kim Schroeder, of Llano, would like to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Dominica Nicole Schroeder, of Llano, to Cody Anderson Chapman, of Brownwood. Cody is the son of Jay and Cheryl Chapman, of Brownwood, and the grandson of Janice Chapman, of Brownwood. Nicole is the granddaughter of Keith and Sandy Patterson, of Miami.

Body recoved in Lake LBJ

The body of a local man drowned Sunday afternoon was recovered early Monday morning from the Llano River arm of Lake LBJ not far from the RR 2900 bridge in Kingsland. Orvel Morris Jr.

Scofflaw program considered

By sometime this fall, your ability to register your automobile may depend on timely payment of Llano County fines, fees or auto sales tax. Despite some reservations from officials on the enforcement end, Llano County Commissioners, Monday, seemed inclined to adopt a local scofflaw program aimed at collecting some $695,000 on 2,016 outstanding warrants.

The City of Llano’s Water Conservation Drought Contingency Plan is segmented into four stages. Stage 1-Mild Water Shortage Condition will be voluntary, beginning June 1, 2008, through September 30, 2008, unless otherwise notified.

The Llano County Commissioners Court on Monday had its first look at the proposed budget for fiscal year 2009, a budget of estimated expenditures of $11,803,539. With few exceptions, departments of the county had submitted estimated budgets with less than a five percent increase; the 500-pound gorilla in the room being fuel costs.

Dead set against the possibility of more taxes and another layer of government in their lives, the loudest voices in the final report meeting of a committee investigating the possibility of incorporation in Kingsland were not just opposed to the idea they were suspicious of anyone who would favor it. “I moved here two and a half years ago and my sole purpose was to get the hell out of a taxed area,” said one of the most loquacious voices in the contingent that could see no sense in a City of Kingsland.

Ester Emma (Schmidt) Chandler, 90, of Llano, passed away June 2, in Llano. She was born on Aug. 10, 1917, in Llano to Johanna (Heine) Schmidt and Gus Schmidt.

Billy Ray Isenberger, 68, a lifetime resident of Llano, passed away Monday, June 9, in Temple. He was born on Dec. 7, 1939, to Vada Gaynell (Wooten) and Charles Ray Isenberger in Llano.

Edna Marie Miiller, 96, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 4 in the Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Edna was born on July 21, 1911, in Llano County, to Herman Fritz and Erna Oestreich Miiller.

Bobbie Ruth Parisher, 67, of Saginaw, passed away June 3. Mrs. Parisher was born on Feb.

Clayton Grey Wooten, of Odessa, passed away Friday, June 6, in Odessa. He was born on July 6, 1975, in Burnet, to Kenneth and La Verne Wooten.

There was a time when summer camp for youngsters meant: swimming, hikes, cookouts that meant 9 p. m.

Coach heads to San Angelo

Just as a Llano High School committee was naming its candidate for the job of girls’ varsity basketball coach, the Jacket athletic program was losing another coach and elementary teacher. Baseball’s Chad Krempin, his wife Jennifer, and their two children are heading to Class-5A San Angelo Central. Krempin had some good things, and not-so-good things, to say concerning his two years here.

The Llano Jacket Summer League Baseball team is off and running in the American Legion Division 4 League. The Jackets are 2-0 in league play defeating Ingram 15 to 7 and Fredericksburg 6 to 1.

The Masons of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge # 413 have selected Floyd A. Drake, of Kingsland, to receive the prestigious Golden Trowel for 2008.

The Lakeshore Library will have a presentation of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Tuesday, June 17 at 2: 30 p. m.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) this month signed a purchase power agreement (PPA), and an acquisition agreement with Sandy Creek Energy Associates (SCEA) for a combined 22. 28 percent of the total plant output from the Sandy Creek Energy Station, a 900-MW pulverized coal facility under construction near Waco.

Another annual Llano Rodeo Parade has successfully made its way through the streets of Llano and around the courthouse square. The 73rd Annual Rodeo Parade on June 7 was sponsored by the Llano Chamber of Commerce, Ratliff Chevrolet and Ford, Rusche Oil Company-Texaco, and Town & Country.

The Llano Fine Arts Guild is offering Creative Art Classes for children age 10 and up at the Llano Fine Arts Gallery located at 503 Bessemer St. Classes will be June 11 through June 13 from 10 a.

Cheryll Mabray, Llano County Attorney, her staff and Texas District and County Attorneys Association are proud to announce their Annual Summer Regional Update. The can’t miss legal seminar of the season is coming to town.

The Llano Country Opry will host two special shows on Saturday, June 14, at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano. Country Music Hall of Famer and longtime Grand Ole Opry Star Bill Anderson will headline with his Po Folks Band. The shows will be at 2:
