Ronnie and Maranda (Randi) Busby are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Rylee Kay, born June 19, at Irwan Army Community Hospital in Ft. Riley, Kan. Rylee weighed 6lb. 8oz. and was 21 inches long. Rylee was welcomed by grandparents Kay and Sid Schmidt and Terry and Connie Mikulenka, of Llano, Don and Ollie Busby, Kingland, aunts Melissa Langs of Ga., Sarah Wardlow, of San Marcus, and uncle Roper Mikulenka currently in Iraq. |

Dr. Kris Kaspar, Llano High School Graduate of ‘98, is now an associate practitioner at Highland Lakes Veterinary Clinic PLLC, in Marble Falls. He enjoys both large and small animal medicine. After graduation from Texas A&M, Dr. Kaspar began practicing in Laramie, Wyo. During his time there, he gained a lot of valuable experience, serving many large horse and cattle ranches. At Alpine Animal Hospital, he was trained in the use of digital X-ray and in the latest equine dental, internal medicine, and small animal surgery. While he enjoyed his time in Wyoming, Kris is glad to be back in this area and looks forward to serving the people and animals of the Hill Country. |

Two men facing burglary charges

A Department of Public Safety Dive Team scoured Lake Marble Falls under the Hwy 281 bridge Tuesday and the FM 2900 bridge in Kingsland on Wednesday looking for loot taken in a series of recent burglaries. Two area men have been arrested after allegedly engaging in a series of criminal activity that led to this underwater search. On June 26, officers with the Horseshoe Bay Police Department received several reports from residents whose vehicles were burglarized within the city during the nighttime hours of June 25 and 26. |

Rex L. Hardaway, 82, of Llano, passed away July 21. He was born to Aubry B. and Trudie Opal (Presley) Hardaway on Feb. 14, 1926, in Leesburg. Mr. Hardaway is survived by his wife of, 61 years, Winnie Hardaway, of Llano; his children, Rex Davis Hardaway and wife, Stephanie, of Atlanta, Ga., Diane Frederick, of Llano, Lauren Flores, of Llano, Mark Hardaway, of Llano, John Hardaway and wife, Debbie, of Fredericksburg; fifteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Corps during WWII. |

Alice Mae Leach, 59, of Llano passed away July 22, in Austin. She was born Oct. 28, 1948, in Llano to Norma (Key) Hallmark and Vonnie Hallmark. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 2006 as well as her father. Four transmission service providers are partnering on a comprehensive proposal to build about 2,400 miles of new transmission lines and facilities to bring a new supply of wind power from West Texas to other parts of the state. The consortium is formed by LCRA Transmission Services Corporation (LCRA TSC); Electric Transmission Texas, LLC (ETT); Oncor Electric Delivery Company; and Sharyland Utilities, LP. The group is proposing an approach for development of Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) – a new system of transmission lines needed to move wind power from generators in West Texas to more densely populated regions of the state. |

According to the National Alzheimer’s Association, more than 7 out of 10 people with Alzheimer’s disease live at home, with nearly 75 percent of the care provided by family and friends. Researchers indicated that elderly caregivers who are experiencing stress related to their care giving tasks have a 63 percent higher mortality rate than their peers. |

Thanks again volunteers, for your hard work at the Lantex last Friday night and Saturday to help in our continual restoration of the theater. We couldn’t run the actual film if it were not for Chuck Slocumb in the projection room. Frank Rowell, our Main Street Board president wore several hats throughout the day and was indispensable Janet Mason, Scott and Mara Dudley, La Nell McKinney, Dwight Blaskowsky, Susan and Rick Cox, Sandra and Charles Slocumb, Gail Williams, Marilyn Hale, Sandy Shaw, Mayor Roger Pinckney, Ann Matlack, Myrna Mund, Cheryl Crabtree, and Patty Felts were all on hand at various times greeting movie goers and selling popcorn, sodas, candy and pickles. The community support has been great this summer for our movies. |

The Llano Uplift Archeolgoical Society (LUAS) Meeting will have a meeting Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at The LCRA Nightengale Archaeological Center (NAC) in Kingsland. Douglas K. Boyd, an archeologist with Prewitt and Associates, Inc., in Austin, will present “History and Archeology of the First Capitol of the Republic of Texas.” In conjunction with the proposed development of a historical park by a local nonprofit group, archeological and historical investigations were conducted on the site of the first capitol of the Republic of Texas in West Columbia. The work focused on Lot 4, Block 2 of the old Columbia townsite because it once contained a wooden structure used by the House of Representatives during the First Congress from October to December 1836. |

Jay Tedder and son, Jax, showed up at the Inks Ranch Saturday morning a few minutes after 7 a.m. Mr. Tedder was the winner in a raffle, held for Project Graduation 2008 that gave away an Axis deer hunt donated by the Inks Ranch LLP. While Jay was getting his rifle and other gear over into the ranch truck, his son Jax was eagerly telling of all the game they saw while driving in. |
