Across most of Texas, the days of the “open range” ended long ago. Mayor Mike Reagor thinks it was in 1952 that Llano County passed a law requiring ranchers to keep their cattle inside fences. But stray cattle have always been a fact of life in Llano County. “If they get on the road,” Sgt.
Justice of the Peace Linda Ballard, Precinct #2, announced last week that she is running for re-election. “I truly enjoy my job,” she says. “Having lived in this area for the last 25 years, I am so grateful to be able to give back my time and energy to the community.

Sports

You may not get an ulcer watching the Llano Ladies play basketball, but there sure is a chance you might give one to the guy sitting next to you. Let’s take at random, oh, say, the short visit to Mason, November 24, to take on the Cowgirls. Nothing too bothersome here, except: the Jackets were a bit tired, playing their sixth game in six days; the hosts made a scary run that threatened to chase the Black and Orange bus back to the dark and winding roads of 29-east; fans had to t ...
The basketball boys picked up a significant win during Thanksgiving week, a convincing conquest of Canyon Lake, a district opponent last season, and one which downed Llano twice. “Every game like this is a step in the right direction,” head coach Shannon Taylor said following the 56-43 decision. The Jackets were up 12-8 after a quarter, and the Hawks never caught up.

Allie Rostron, who’s getting more time in the sports section than TCU, scored a career-high 27 points, November 23, and Llano whipped visiting Fredericksburg, 53-40. The winning number is the highest the Ladies have scored in their 6-2 start this season. “It felt like it was 12 or something,” Allie modestly recalled.
The Forecast: Time to go Bowling...
Since it really takes no genius to pick the bowl matchups, I am ultimately qualified. Here we go. You can get through this almost as quickly as you can say, Football Bowl Subdivision. I neither know exactly what that means nor do I care. To me, it’s major college or not. National Championship Texas vs.

Crime rates were relatively low in the U.S.

Several local churches worked together to provide a festive and delicious “Community Thanksgiving Dinner” at the Family Life Center of the Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church last Thursday. The annual event had been held at the American Legion Hall for the previous 16 years, but Mayor Mike Reagor, who co-ordinated the event, says it was “so much easier to do it at the church,” where most of the food was prepared and clean-up was more convenient. &ldq ...
