The latest in a series of sporadic incidents of vandalism at the site of the old Six Mile community left broken glass and toppled tombstones at the historic schoolhouse and cemetery just off Ranch Road 2323 in southwestern Llano County. Cousins Ronnie and Jess Ratliff, both trustees of the Six Mile Cemetery Association, told The Llano News last Wednesday that the mid-December episode may be the worst yet.

November saw a sharp decline in the number of foreclosure filings in Llano County, with only seven properties posted for sale by lenders. The last time foreclosure filings were that low was in January of 2008.
However, December ended the year on a sour note with 36 foreclosure filings according to records of the Llano County Clerk’s Office.

The city council took only 18 minutes to go through a 3-item agenda and listen to a report on the upcoming Texas Proud Festival at its regular meeting Monday evening.
The first item was a simple approval of last meeting’s minutes, but two other items required a short discussion.

SAN ANTONIO--It was a triumph on the floor of the four-time NBA champions. It may not have produced the offensive firepower of some of those past victories over Boerne, Taylor, and Comfort, but those wins weren’t achieved at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. If it weren’t a “once in a lifetime” experience, then the girls may have to see which WNBA teams are interested in them.
The Llano Ladies squared off with Lampasas on the final day of the decade, and unde ...

Jackets Capture Holiday Tourney
The Llano basketball Jackets were certainly tournament-tested in December. Homeland Security would be elated if U.S. airports could get such high marks. Llano won its own event, December 29-30, to go along with a championship at Hamilton and the silver medal in San Saba. Overall record for the tournaments: 11-1.

This one wasn’t as easy as you may think it should have been.

I have to confess; despite my mild-mannered exterior, I’m really quite a trouble-maker. At least that’s the opinion of seven or eight impatient ladies at the U.S. Census Bureau who couldn’t answer my question Monday morning. As their blood pressures rose, each one would pass me along to the next, who would profess ignorance just as sincerely as the one before.
My question was really quite a simple one, but I could tell it made them uncomfortable.

The Llano High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students worked hard in 2009 to make a difference in our community. Besides taking a stance on abuse, helping out students in need, and helping make 31 children’s Christmas brighter, the students also collected and donated books to the Highland Lakes Crisis Center to assist those in need.
