“Right now,” says Llano Mayor Mike Reagor, “I think we are rolling.” The most recent sales tax rebate was 13 percent higher than the year before, and his personal impression is that things are busier. One good sign: “I’ve had more people complain lately about the lack of parking.” Still, the possibility of the national economy turning back down in a “double-dip” recession worries him, and there are local issues that present challen ...
A two vehicle accident on rain slicked roads claimed the life of Antonio Herrera, 82, of Pontotoc on Friday morning on SH 71 two miles east of Horseshoe Bay in southeast Llano County. Herrera was a passenger in his nephew’s 1996 Nissan pickup traveling east on SH 71 around 9:25 a.m.

Sports

The varsity wasn’t the only Llano football team seeking points under a summer 7-on-7 sun. The JV racked up a 10-3 record, while the freshmen finished a respectable 6-5. The two squads played on the Marble Falls High School practice fields throughout June. “We had a great group of kids who did awesome,” 7-on-7 JV coach, Trey Brooks, said.
Art’s Commentary
There are a lot more things I like about football than I don’t like, but the negatives are so much more fun and humorous. Well, at least you’ve got a fighting chance with humor with the bad stuff. Morgan vs. Herron
In the 7-on-7 story in this neighborhood, Llano led Marble Falls 19-14 with 15 seconds left in the first half. It’s Mustang ball on the Jackets’ 21-yard line. A play to remember was about to happen: Quarterback Zed Woerner threw high and to the left to David Morgan. The 6’4” tight end was in the end zone.

Editorials

I think old age is getting the best of me; I didn’t do nearly as well this July 4th weekend as I did last year. It was partly the weather, too; while I think everyone appreciated the cooler temperatures, my pictures didn’t turn out as well with all the cloud cover as they had in the bright sun last year.

History
The riots that rocked several American cities in 1968 never made the papers in Llano, which chose to emphasize the plentiful rains and bumper crop of wildflowers that spring. On the last week of May, it was the upcoming rodeo that dominated the local headlines, not the upcoming primary in California.
