Llano County’s Floodplain Community Panel will meet this afternoon (Wednesday, July 28) to discuss floodplain issues in each of the county’s four precincts. Since the three-member committee is chaired by the commissioner of the precinct in which the issue is raised, there will be four separate meetings, at half-hour intervals, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The first meeting, chaired by Commissioner Johnnie Heck (Precinct #1) will review the B.C.

Two men were killed Friday morning in a collision that occurred at about 8:30 am on Hwy 71 approximately 1.5 miles east of Marble Falls.

The City of Llano is ready to present a draft of its historical preservation ordinance, after the Historical Preservation Committee ironed out the last few details in a meeting last Thursday afternoon. The goal of the ordinance is the “protection, enhancement and perpetuation of historic districts and historic landmarks” (buildings or sites of historical and cultural significance).

The City of Llano , will amend Ordinance No. 756, Chapter 5, Subsection 501.1, Allowable Outdoor Fires to consist of brush, trees and other plant growth. The new Ordinance No. 1159 will take effect on August 5, 2010. The new ordinance will require that any such fire may not be kindled or maintained until after an inspection and a permit are issued by the Llano Building Official.

Clovis Christene (Jeffcoat) Caughman of Llano passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the age of 90. She was born February 28, 1920 in Collin County to Hattie Gracie (Bennett) and Daniel Edward Jeffcoat. She married Oliver Taylor Caughman Nov. 12, 1937 in Eagle Pass. She lived most of her life as a resident in Flower Grove she taught sunday school for many years, gardened, canned and was very community oriented individual.

Earl Wayne May, Jr. passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 in San Angelo at Shannon Medical Center.
He was born on January 22, 1930 in Gustine to Earl Wayne and Mary Lou May. Wayne grew up in Comanche County. He married the love of his life, Betty Lou Wallis, on October 27, 1951 in Llano.

Funeral services for Lillian “Lillie” Hackworth, 60 of Giddings, were scheduled for 10:00a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Jeremy Walloch officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday from 8:00 a.m until 9:00 p.m. with the family being present from 5:00 p.m.

Roger Dale Reynolds, age 63, of Buchanan Dam passed away Friday, July 16, 2010. He was born January 23, 1947 to Fredda (Price) & Eual C. Reynolds in Melton, W. Va. He married Janice (Mayfield) Reynolds October 17, 1971 in Virginia. Roger and Janice moved to this area in 1995 coming from Kansas.

Walter Sherman Bauer, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on July 19, 2010. He was born Sept. 26, 1935. He graduated from Llano High School and played football for TCU. He then joined the Coast Guard and after that he went to barber school and was a barber for 45 years.

On the front page of The Llano News on July 2, 1942, was a photo of the Army Air Force’s “wicked looking” AT-9 training plane from Ellington Field, near Houston, which reportedly “has all the flying characteristics of the giant bombers the graduating class at the Texas air drome will soon be piloting.”
Some of those flyers may have been from Llano, although none were named.

Plans are underway for the Llano County Heritage Festival this fall, on and around the courthouse square sponsored by Llano Main Street. This year the event will be held October 15, 16 and 17. The Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-off will be at that time in Badu Park, on the north side of the Llano River Bridge.
