Retired Llano County Sheriff’s Deputy Melvin Allen Lawson has been arrested in the shooting death of a dog that wandered into his yard on August 2.
According to Llano Police Chief James Schilling Lawson turned himself in to officials at the Llano County Jail Friday morning just after 10 am. He was charged with non-livestock animal cruelty, a state jail felony.
Lawson, 65, posted a $1000 bond and was released the same day.

With the first day of school less than a week away, the Llano ISD held a combination "Welcome Back" ceremony (or "Welcome" for a couple of dozen new staff members), pep rally and celebration last Thursday at the high school auditorium. More than 300 ISD staff members listened and cheered as they were addressed by Board President Ronnie Rudd, Superintendent Dennis Hill, Assistant Superintendent Tim Glover and motivational speaker Jim Bob Solsbery.

Veteran cowboy poets Walt Perryman, George Russell, and W.C. Jameson will be featured at Cowboy Poetry Night at the Famous Fuel Coffee House on Thursday, August 26, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Admission is free. Thursday’s show is the second installment of the Fuel Coffee House Cowboy Poetry Series.

The family of Frank and Mary Rhoades gathered on Saturday, August 14 for the reunion, that is held the second Saturday of August each year. It was just as big as usual and excellent as always.
There were about 74 attending; some names were not listed, but were remembered just the same and added to the total number.
Harry Isenberger, held the honor of the being oldest attendee until he passed away this year.

I attended the August 12th meeting at the LanTex regarding the Historical Preservation Zoning Ordinance. My family has owned property on the square for over 70 years. Eight years ago we bought an additional historic building on the square. After listening to the presentation I am in favor of the proposed ordinance.

Clara Rose Williams, 86, of Kingsland, passed away, August 21, 2010. She was born to Josh and Anna Kurz Sandlin on October 22, 1923 in Dallas.
Clara was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Austin Power Squadron and the Experimental Aircraft Association. She is survived by her husband, Roy Williams of Kingsland; son, Frank Hinds of Horseshoe Bay, two grandsons, Robert and David Hinds and one great granddaughter.

Nettie Jean Hobbs, age 85 of Hutto and a former resident of Kingsland from 1969 to 2001, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Georgetown. Nettie was born on September 24, 1924 in Crowell to Sylveston Newsom and Jeanettie (McKenzie) Newsom. She married Ernie Clifford Hobbs on January 7, 1945 in Lubbock.

The San Antonio International Farm and Ranch Show, to be held Oct 14-16, has added several new features for attendees and their families, according to show coordinators.
The show will take place on the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and Freeman Coliseum grounds, 3201 E. Houston St. and One AT&T Center Parkway.

The Department of State Health Services is advising consumers not to eat Wright County Eggs because they may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis, bacteria that may cause serious health problems.
On Aug. 13 Wright County Egg company issued a voluntary recall on eggs from its facility in Galt, Iowa. Wright County eggs are shipped to Texas by way of one or more intermediary distributors.

Over 500 Hill Country energy consumers gathered in the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium on August 17, as Central Texas Electric Co-op hosted its 63rd Annual Members’ Meeting. CEO Robert A. Loth III welcomed them and introduced Board President Michael Randolph nine other CTEC directors in attendance. Dr. Don Higginbotham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, provided an invocation.
