Guest Artist Michael Jennings will give a demo on Monday Oct. 6, at the Llano Fine Arts Gallery at 503 Bessemer St.(one block north of the bridge). Everyone is welcome to attend the demo from 10 a.m. until noon. Lunch will be served afterwards and a $5 donation will be appreciated to help cover costs. |

Marin Elizabeth Zimmer, of Llano, received a Bachelor of Arts in English, from Texas A&M University in College Station, Sept. 19. Diplomas were awarded to 1,764 Texas A&M University graduates during summer commencement ceremonies. |

Welcomed lovingly by brothers, Ty and Tate, Leah Claire Schmidt was born on July 14. She was born at 4:07 p.m. in Austin, to Shanda and JB Schmidt, of Mason. The Llano County Commissioners discussed the transmission line projects to move wind energy from West Texas to Central Texas that will take place in Llano County. Steve Dryer and Lance Willmous represented LCRA in showing the commissioners how the proposed transmission lines might be positioned within the county. “The Public Utilities Commission has made some recommendations on the proposed routes and based on the recommendations there might be bids on who will do the work,” said Willmous. |

Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention along with the San Saba Police Department hosted a presentation, Tuesday Sept. 16, about the growing meth problem in Llano and the surrounding counties. A large group of locals met in the Llano High School Auditorium to listen to San Saba Police Officer Allen Brown and his partner DeWyane Shaw, present “Eyes Wide Shut.” The point of the presentation was to raise awareness, educate the community about drugs and paraphernalia, and public’s role with law enforcement in the fight against drugs. “We believe that the key to successful fighting with drugs is forming a chain,” said Officer Brown. |

On Sept. 16 the Board of Directors of Operation Round-Up at CTEC approved a Llano County organization grant to help people in need within their service territory. A $500 grant request was approved for the Llano New Horizons organization. According to the grant application submitted, the purpose of the Llano New Horizons is to provide financial support for local family emergencies. |

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election is Oct. 6. That means if you have never registered or if you have moved since you last registered, you have 16 business days left to be able to cast your vote for the next President of the United States. The place to do that in Llano County is in the Office of County Clerk Bette Sue Hoy. |

Beverly Fern Cupp, 70, a resident of Buchanan Dam, passed away on Sept. 16, after a year of bravely battling lung cancer. She was born to Curtis and Elva Montgomery on Dec. 3, 1937 in Mitchell, S.D. Mrs. Cupp is survived by her husband Jimmy; her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Cheryl Lande; her son Shawn Lander; her brothers Bill Montgomery and James Montgomery, and Doyle and, wife, Helen Cupp. She graduated from Yankton College in 1959 with a degree in music and later received her teaching credential. |

Bill Sellman, 81, of Cherokee, passed away, Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. He was born March 11, 1927, in Rochelle, the son of Charlie Sellman and Vannie Long Sellman. Mr. Sellman was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Roy Sellman and Charles Sellman. He is survived by his three daughters Billie Jean Bissette, of Mansfield, Sharon Kay Sellman, of Crosby, and Joy Jenkins and husband, John, of Azle; his grandchildren, Jim Sellman Jenkins and wife, Teryn, Randa Goode and husband, Ronnie, Janis Patrick and husband, James, Kara Ashworth and husband, Roger, Marti Thompson and husband, Jamie, Jeanne Cornelius, and Ashley Hall and husband, Stephen; his great-grandchildren, Monty Jenkins, Cotie Jenkins, Murri Jenkins, Cooper Sellman Jenkins, Mia Gordy, Ty Gordy, Jackson Thompson, Charlotte Thompson and Charlie Ashworth; his brother, Richard Sellman and wife, Ida, of Fredericksburg; his four sisters: Lula Buntyn and husband, Ray, of Ohio, Sue Wyres, of New Braunfels, Callie McMurry, of New Braunfels, and Sarah Sessom, of Texarkana; and several nieces and nephews. The 7th grade Daubers put on an impressive performance for their home opener defeating the Taylor Ducks 30-0. The Daubers received the opening kick and on the third play Layton Rabb carried for a 42-yard touchdown run. Caleb Penny carried for the conversion and a quick 8-0 start. Taylor would try to strike quick throwing a pass on their first play from scrimmage. |

The 8th grade Daubers polished off the Taylor Ducks 38-0 last Thursday in Taylor. The touchdowns came early and often as Llano jumped out to a 32-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Storey Tatsch began the scoring when he took the first snap of the game 55 yards for a touchdown (Taylor Meador added the PAT). |

The 9th grade football team traveled to Taylor last Thursday night for a great game against the Taylor Ducks. The Yellow Jackets ended up on the short end on the scoreboard but not on effort. The Jackets first score was a 10 yard run by Connor Chauncy. Cody Lang ran for the two point conversion. |

AKA (also known as), an Austin-based musical show group, will bring its production of “Big Band to Be-Bop” to The Uptown Marble Theater on Sept. 19-20. Performances are at 8 p.m. each evening. The group, which has been in existence for eight years, is bringing this show to the Uptown following its well-received performance at Way Off Broadway, in Cedar Park, in February 2008. |

Horseshoe Bay Police Department and Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance for any information on a burglary which occurred Wednesday, Sept. 17, between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Unknown suspect or suspects entered a residence in Horseshoe Bay West and took two Samsung flat screen televisions a 61inch and a 42 inch valued at over $1,800. |

The annual Cherokee Home for Children’s auction for 2008 will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the home, which is located two miles north of Cherokee on Highway 16. Lots of furniture, appliances, collectibles, lawn and garden equipment, and other great items will be auctioned. This annual event is made possible through the gracious benevolence from Church of Christ members throughout the State of Texas. |

The Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center lost a much-needed grant this month, valued at $82,000. This comes as an unexpected setback as the Center is managing a record number of child victimization cases this year. “This grant money was needed for salaries for our busy staff,” explained Deborah Keith, Executive Director for the Center. |

Congratulations to John “Stephen” Brownlee, one of only 16,000 students nationwide named as a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition (NMSC). Stephen will now advance to the Finalist level competition where he hopes to advance and become one of 8,000 recipients of a Merit Scholarship. Last year, Llano High School boasted two National Merit Semi-Finalists who went on to become Merit finalists: Valerie Hoerster and Kaitlin Newell. |

The Llano Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications from individuals who wish to serve on the board of directors. The term of director positions are three years and will begin in January 2009. Everyone has pictures that were taken through the years of a house, building, or someplace special that brings back memories. Think of the many places in Llano County that have been completely remodeled, or demolished that were captured on film and hidden away in a scrapbook. |
