Vivian Horlen, of Castell and Dennis and Mary Lewis, of Flower Mound announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Kristin Lewis and Kyle Horlen. Kristin graduated in 2002 with a B. A.

Hudson and Martha Long celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. They moved into their home on Chedrokee Creek after their wedding April 4, 1958 and have lived there and raised their family ever since. All of their children and grandchildren were there for the celebration.

Terry and Sharla Wooten of Llano, Texas are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Nicole Wooten, to Michael Landry Scott, son of Keith and Cindy Scott of Celina. Amy is the granddaughter of W. B.

Kingsland Library

A 50th Anniversary Celebration Friday recounted a history from the time the Kingsland Library had just one book to it’s name to a modern six-day-a-week service with a large collection of printed and audio volumes, a genealogy collection and internet service. Friends of the Kingsland Library have been such an integral part of that growth that the organization was key in those recognized.

Monday night’s city council meeting proved that they do exist, that there are enough members, alive and well, to reach a quorum. Everything on the agenda was discussed and many things were approved.

A general election will be held on May 10 to elect three at-large council member’s for two year terms. Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted each weekday at the Llano County Library, 102 E.

Kindergarten Roundup gets underway this week and, if you are the parent of a child who will be five years old September 1, it is time to prepare to register. Packsaddle Elementary School (PES) Kindergarten Roundup will be 9 a.

The price for a one-ounce First-Class stamp will increase from 41 cents to 42 cents on May 12. Prices for other mailing services, such as Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services (including single-piece Parcel Post), and Special Services will also change (see the chart below).

Llano County Sheriff’s Office and Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance for any information on a theft of reels of copper wire from Central Texas Electric CO-OP in Kingsland sometime between 5 p. m. Tuesday April 15, to 7 a.

Dorothy Bell, 80, of Kingsland, passed away Wednesday, April 16, in Llano. She was born on April 5, 1929, to Emmaline (Swafford) and Charlie Clay Taylor in Wilson.

James Howard Birdsong, 67, passed away in Houston on April 18. He was born to J. D.

Robert Q. “Bob” Cohen, 94, passed away April 12. He was born July 21, 1913 in Washington, D.

Nell Miller Harris, 90, of Llano, passed away April 19. She was born Oct. 27, 1917 in Fredonia, to Vernon Eugene Miller and Ora (Panky) Miller.

Royce Allen Henry, 78, of Kingsland, passed away April 13. He was born to Sol and Zada Pearl (Reid) Henry on March 16, 1930 in Pernell, Okla.

Lois Anita Jackson, 70, of Buchanan Dam, passed away April 7. She was born to Alvin Ernest and Vera Mae (Hale) Ware on Feb. 1, 1938, in Menard.

Betty C. Parks, 82 years, of Llano, passed away on April 19. She was born November 18, 1925, to Razzie and Ida Mae Thompson Chafin at Marie, Ariz.

Carl Pittsford, 81, passed away Sunday, April 13. He was born Dec. 7, 1926 in Bastrop.

James A. Smith, 61, of Llano passed away, Saturday, April 19, at his home in Llano. He was born July 21, 1946, in San Saba, to Alfredo Elmo Smith and Rutha Maude Rankin Smith.

Jackets sent

Two things you’d like to happen when you’re playing your final game at home: win and have the contest meander along, maybe going on forever. The former did take place, April 18, as the Llano Lady Jackets knocked out Ingram, 10-0.

The search for gold continues in Kingsville, Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, for the Llano track team. The step-up in competition means racing for the wire against squads from districts 25-32.

Playoff-bound Llano

Not this time. The Llano baseball Jackets did grab a huge lead over Ingram, April 18, but the Warriors did not script a sequel to their amazing comeback ten days before when they rallied from an 11-2 deficit to win, 17-14. In this rematch, playoff-bound Llano prevailed 17-2.

It simply wasn’t meant to be--no district- championship repeat for the Llano softball Jackets, who were decisively dethroned by Wimberley, 10-3, April 15, a night which was indeed taxing. “It wasn’t pretty at all,” head coach Brian Cottle said, in echo of the fans’ sentiment.

Our U-6 highlight team this week is the Orange team coached by Marcus Perez. Players include Donny Carpenter, Jazlyn Blackburn, Caitlin Smith, Brayden Hoy, Jordan Reed, and Dillon Prokop.

Area

A 1967 presidential-style barbeque in front of the Texas White House on the banks of the Pedernales River will be hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of LBJNHP on Saturday, May 17.

Community News

Local cancer survivors and their caregivers were treated to a dinner hosted by the Acme Cafe last Tuesday as part of the local Relay for Life events. Forty-five survivors and caregivers enjoyed a meal of pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, and strawberry cake, generously donated by Acme Cafe.

Llano American Legion Post 370 will have their monthly meeting Thursday at 6: 30 p. m.

Think picnics, kites, and wildflowers, but whatever you do be sure to spring into action and save a life. First Baptist Church located at 107 West Luce in Llano, is giving everyone a chance to save lives at their blood drive Monday, April 28 from 2 p. m.

Plan to be at the Lantex Theater this Saturday, April 26, for multiple showings of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who!

On April 12, Craig Martin, Colton Roark, and Jason Hinton competed at Extravagaza in Brownwood. Martin placed first in Traditional Archery and fourth in Light Rifle.
