Saturday is election day for the Llano City Council, Sunrise Beach City Commission and Kingsland Municipal Utility District. Voters from Precincts 202 and 410 will cast their Llano City Council ballots at the Llano Fire Hall at 305 West Main Street.

Council considers brief agenda

Monday night’s city council meeting was short, sweet and to the point. All council members were present and with only four items on the agenda, the meeting didn’t last an hour.

Billy O. Brooks, 76, of Kingsland, passed away May 4. He was born to O.

Kenneth Allen Batchelor, 59, of Kingsland passed away Wednesday, April 30, in Kingsland. He was born on Aug. 3, 1948, to Ila Amanda (Mason) and Charles K.

Linda Diane Gardner Batchelor, 61, of Kingsland, passed away Saturday, May 3, in Llano. She was born on December 20, 1946, to Martha Ann (Dixon) and Milton Lee Gardner in Seattle, Wash.

It was your classic softball battle: a pitcher’s duel--a dandy display by a dazzling duo with deliveries of defiance. Kailyn Miller of Devine was just that, and her two-hitter was a stitch-on-the-ball better than Cierra Thompson, who also allowed a pair of Arabians to hit safely.

The Llano baseball Yellow Jackets can score runs as fast as the Dallas Mavericks can make vacation plans, so the Jackets will continue their playoff march following the destruction of the Luling Eagles in the bidistrict round, May 2 and May 3. Llano won the best of three series, 17-6 and 18-8. Oh, mercy.

The Llano Boys and Girls Golf Teams advanced to Regional competition on April 21 and 22 in Corpus Christi. The boys played 36 holes at the OSO Golf course, while the girls played at the Gabe Lozano course.

It’s time to “tee it up” at the 12th Annual Ron Pruitt Memorial Golf Tournament at beautiful Barton Creek Country Club in Lakeside. The tournament – set Monday, May 12 – benefits the Spicewood and Pedernales EMS and Volunteer Fire Departments and honors the memory of Ron Pruitt, a Lakeside member and EMS Committee chair.

Congress has cut victim assistance funds 22 percent over the past two federal fiscal years under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). The Administration’s 2009 budget request would cut another 20 percent from VOCA victim assistance funding.

The Hill Country Cattlewomen, hosted their annual scholarship fundraising luncheon and style show at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville, on Tuesday, April 15. Raffle drawings, a silent auction, and a live auction were all a part of this fundraising event.

When Rudy Cunningham put his name on the Inks Ranch Goat Hunt donated to Project Graduation for their silent auction, he was standing on flat ground, when he arrived at the ranch on April 12, to collect his prize, he and his son Ron were looking up, at the 600 plus acre granite mountain where the Catalina goats roam. These wild goats have roamed this mountain for decades and are the offspring of a plan gone bad.

Earning an opportunity to compete at the UIL Academic Meet at U. T. in Austin is no small accomplishment.

Everybody likes to look their best, whether it’s for work, a special occasion, a special someone, or every day. Sometimes, it’s hard to stay looking good and now-a-days with gas prices, it’s not always affordable.

Two young Texas vocalists will perform in concert at the Badu Park Pavilion at 7 p. m. May 16 in a benefit for the Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention, Inc.

The Llano Junior Women’s Culture Club held its last meeting of the year at Celia Griffin’s nursery, “Growing Crazy. ” Mrs.

The Llano Uplift Archeological Society (LUAS) will have a meeting May 14, at 7 p. m. at the LCRA Nightengale Archaeological Center (NAC) in Kingsland.

Llano County Judge, Wayne Brascom, signed a proclamation declaring April 27 through May 4, as Soil Stewardship Week. Stewardship Week is one of the largest national annual programs to promote conservation.

Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Famer Tony Douglas and his award winning band, The Shrimpers will headline a special edition of the Llano Country Opry on Saturday, May 10. The show will be held at the Lantex Theater in Llano.
