BLANCO—Coaches are the best! The area of success for this moment is the postgame interview. More specifically, the post-meet interview. I was told that the Pre-District Meet here, April 2—oh, I am soooo glad it wasn’t the day before: I HATE April Fools’ jokes—was to be a glorified practice, a warm-up for district (hence, the creative name), low-key, just four teams involved, no official winners declared; estimated times and distances; and cheering was optional. So, at meet’s end I ...

One girl and one boy—not a surprising combination—got together (not literally) to silence Llano bats on April’s first Friday night. Didn’t matter overhand or underhand, didn’t matter lefty or righty, didn’t matter who was up, didn’t matter the field, two Liberty Hill juniors were superb in a doubleheader triumph. Marshall Brown controlled the situation in baseball better than Marshall Earp could have done in Tombstone, and the Panthers pounded the Jackets, 7-0.

SPICEWOOD—They may be the most successful athletes in the history of sports—who no one has ever heard of. Yes, “no one” is a little strong, but it’s a grabber. I’m talking about the Bryan brothers, certainly not as well-known as the Jonas, Wright, Harbaugh, or Blues Brothers. I will admit I’m sure it doesn’t bother this tennis duo, who put on a clinic in Horseshoe Bay, April 5, and then played in an exhibition that night at the Lakecliff Racquet Club. Why the “most successfu ...

Passover was near and thousands were gathering at Jerusalem for this important occasion. Jesus and His disciples were among them and as they descended from the Mount of Olives the crowd broke into shouts of praise, crying: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” This enthusiastic welcome must have taken the disciples by surprise.

Last week I was getting along just fine. Things were being accomplished and I was rather enjoying myself. Dutifully, I was checking off item after item on my “to-do-list.” I love it when a plan comes together. However, at the top of my exuberance, the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage stopped me dead in my tracks with a query. She is quite famous, or is it infamous, for pulling these kinds of things on Yours Truly.
