Following a lengthy discussion, Alderwoman Jeanne Puryear made a motion to move forward with the procurement of a management team to help manage the Llano Municipal Golf Course and help reduce the deficit that the golf course currently incurs each year. It was standing room only at the Llano ISD Board meeting Monday night. Approximately 100 concerned citizens showed up to support Lance Dillard as he addressed the Board about what some parents see as a lack of pride on LISD campuses. Dillard expressed concerns about teacher and student morale, the CSCOPE program, and what he described as an overall negative feeling about the community and schools.

On Monday, January 9, the Llano County Commissioners witnessed the presentation of checks by Jeff Robinson, Chairman of the Hill Country 100 Club to local law enforcement agencies. The Llano County Sheriff, Llano Police Department, Horseshoe Bay Police Department and Sunrise Beach Police Department all received checks from the group, to be used for training.
The Hill Country 100 Club presented Llano County law enforcement agencies with checks at this week’s meeting of the county commissioners. Jeff Robinson, current chairman of the organization, now in its tenth year, addressed commissioners on Monday morning, regarding the mission of the Hill Country 100 Club and presented checks totaling $6,395 to be used for training that is no longer paid for under recent budget cuts. The end of 2011 won’t soon be forgotten by the Hillman family. On December 30, Gary Hillman and his two sons, Michael and Kenneth, ventured to Summit Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, teeing off for what would be an historic round. Hillman, who owns a home in Horseshoe Bay on Island Drive, and lives in Oklahoma City, had played the course only two times before.
The filing period for candidates wishing to be included in the April 3 primaries ended on December 19. The seats for District Attorney and the two open spots on the Commissioners Court have multiple candidates running. The three incumbents, District Attorney Sam Oatman, Precinct 1 Commissioner Johnnie Heck and Precinct 3 Commissioner Tommy Duncan have all declined to run again. Benjamin Joseph Hilburn became the newest addition to Llano at 10:35am on Tuesday, January 3. Mom, Evon Partida-Hilburn and dad, Jason Hilburn were surprised by baby Benjamin, because they thought they were having a girl! Benjamin will be welcomed home by older sister Ella Eve, and was named in honor of his grandmother who passed away on Dec.
The locally famous pair of Llano Bald Eagles returned to their winter nest this fall and recent activity indicates that eggs have recently hatched. Texas Parks and Wildlife specialist Dale Schmidt has followed their activity since 2004. He commented, “The bald eagle pair returned to the nest site on October 1, 2011, and started repairing and improving the nest that they used last year.
Council members met for the first time of 2012 for a short meeting on Tuesday night. The Llano Chamber of Commerce presented the council with a proposed budget for this year for the amount of $69,954, an increase over last year’s budget. Increases in salary and advertising were requested and granted.
In their December meeting, the Texas Transportation Commission approved approximately $430,000 for the Llano Muncipal Airport. Four new hangars will be constructed at the Llano Municipal Airport, following the authorization of an application to TxDOT for Non-Primary Entitlement Funds. The total cost for the project is estimated to be $430,000, 10% of which the City will be required to fund, for a total estimated cost to the City of $43,000 Representatives from the airport said ...
