Previous articles have laid the groundwork for a clearer understanding of an historical event that occurred in downtown Llano in June, 1882, known as the Carter-Coggin Feud. As already indicated, most of what has been written and said about this event is riddled with many unanswered questions and a lot of highly disputable innuendos and contradictions about not only what happened on that day, but also who was involved and why problems arose in the first place.

Dear Editor, Being eighty nine years old, I can remember happenings at the LanTex Theater in the mid to late thirties. At that time, it was owned and operated by a man and wife named Garner. She worked in the ticket booth, while he managed the finances and made decisions as to what movies to run. They showed Westerns on Saturdays with a 10-chapter serial.

Coming with every New Year are hopes that the year that lies ahead will be better than the one left behind. The town of Llano went through a similar experience once the county was rid of some of the earliest problems that plagued its citizens.

I enjoyed LCRA’s General Manager Becky Mortal’s statements this week about water releases. The article exemplifies the disconnection within the departments of her organization as well as with the public. There was a meeting last month with reports that left me with the impression that water was being released to raise the level of Lake Travis is for a particular subdivision.

10, 9, 8, 7….and like that 2011 was over and gone. A new year is always a great way for people to realize there is time for change or new beginnings and time to look ahead without regrets of where you’ve been. Although change is difficult sometimes, it can be a very rewarding.

Dear Editor and United States Postal Service, It is very sad to see the United States Congress destroying the United States Postal Service. The USPS was one of the first departments created by Our Founding Fathers. It has served the citizens of the United States for over 200 years offering the most reliable mail service in the World. It provides six day door to door mail service to all residents of the U.S.
