Joel and Elizabeth Ratliff are happy to announce the birth of their son Conner Dale Ratliff on March 19, 2014.  He was born at home in Cherokee, weighed 8 lb 9 oz., and was 21 inches long.  He is named after his maternal grandmother, Connie Perry, and late grandfather Dale Perry.  His paternal grandparents are Bobby and Pat Ratliff of Babyhead.  He was welcomed by proud older siblings, Garrett, Erin, Patrick, and Olivia.

Erica and Robert Wright are the proud parents of Liam Harrison Wright born February 24, 2014. Erica teaches at Allen High School in Allen, Texas where they reside. Robert is a LHS graduate (1999) and a Texas A & M graduate. Robert works for a company that manages commercial property.

Mr. and Mrs. James Taylor Virdell, Sr. of Llano, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 5, 2014. Close friends and family joined them at their home in Llano to congratulate them on this momentous occasion. A panel of members of the Kingsland Genealogical Society of the Highland Lakes (KGS) will share stories about their family history searches at the group’s April meeting. On Thurday, March 27, the Highland Lakes Democratic Women welcomed their members and guests to their monthly luncheon at Hidden Falls Restaurant in Meadowlakes. The crowd was captured by this month’s guest, David Weinberg. Mr. Weinberg is the Executive Director of the Texas League of Conservation Voters whose purpose is to preserve and enhance the quality of life of Texans by making conservation a top priority with Texas elected officials, political candidates and voters.

River Duran Sheppard was born to Tom and Judith Sheppard on March 24. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 10 oz. and has an exceptionally good set of lungs. The Highland Lakes Democratic Women (HLDW), local chapter of Texas Democratic Women (TDW), participated in the annual TDW convention beginning Friday, February 21st, and closing with the gala dinner on Saturday night, February 22nd. The convention was held at the Wyndham Hotel in Austin, with approximately 200 jubilant attendees. The crowd was addressed on Saturday morning by Wendy Davis and Leticia Van de Putte, candidates for Texas Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Due to inclement weather, the start of school for tomorrow, Friday, January 24, 2014, will be delayed two hours. Also, buses will run two hours later than normal.
