On April 16, 2013, the Llano FFA Chapter went the San Saba District FFA Convention in Goldthwaite, Texas.
The two members that attended the convention were Kathryn Cunningham and Julianna Ball. These two individuals served as the voting delegates and also received the awards for Llano FFA. The awards they received were 1st in Meats Judging 2013, 1st in Livestock Judging 2013, 3rd Jr.

Early voting has begun, and the race for three seats on the Llano ISD School Board will conclude on May 11.
There are three seats up for grabs, Place 2, which is currently held by John Moran, Place 6, which is currently held by Becky Robinson, and Place 7, currently held by Ronnie Rudd.
Moran and Robinson opted to not seek re-election, however, Rudd has filed to run.

The special education and special programs staff and students at Llano ISD have been extremely busy this year.
Have you heard that the Life skills students at Packsaddle Elementary recently received a grant from Morgan’s Wonderland to attend a day long outing to their amusement park. Morgan’s combines fun and exploration with educationally based activities and “hands on” experiences for all children.

Please join us for our public performance, scenes from “The Women of Lockerbie” on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30PM in the Llano High School auditorium. We will be accepting donations for a special purpose.
Brackett High School OAP suffered a horrendous tragedy early Sunday morning with the loss of two of their actresses (sisters-Marley and Madison) and their parents, a third child (13 year old Zach) is in intensive care at University Hospital in San Antonio.

Learning opportunities at Llano Elementary School are diverse, thanks to a strong sense of compassion and caring fostered within the community. Our students’ education is enriched by mentors, service projects and leadership opportunities.
There is a strong mentoring program at Llano Elementary that has been in place for many years. Mentors are caring adults throughout our community who volunteer to spend about 30 minutes per week with an individual student.

The Llano ISD board heard a presentation from Family Career and Community Leaders of America student Shelby Kamradt about her struggle with leukemia. Shelby is state-bound and her sponsor/FCCLA advisor is Deidre Henderson.
Board members and district administrators also took time to honor outgoing board members Becky Robinson and John Moran.

On March 26, John Buttery presented the Llano FFA a donation of $916.00 made possible by Buttery hardware’s participation in the Red Brand Fencing Homegrown program.
From January 1 to December 31 of 2013, Red Brand fencing will donate $1.00 for every roll of fencing sold through Buttery’s Hardware to the Llano FFA.
These funds will be used to enhance the agricultural program at Llano.

Last Thursday, March 28, the Board of Trustees for Llano Independent School District met in executive session to consider a separation agreement with Superintendent Dennis Hill.
According to a statement from the trustees, the agreement includes the resignation of Hill effective June 30, 2013, a one-year contract with Hill to serve as Special Projects Consultant, for which Hill will receive his current salary as well as all benefits.

Many successful events have already occurred during the Spring Semester for students in the Llano Bands. In February, many students from the Llano Junior High and Llano High School Bands competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble competition held at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. Band students were very successful with a total of 33 LJH students receiving a 1st Division medal and 13 LHS Band members receiving 1st Division Medals.

Since October with the Super Conference at the University of Texas, the UIL Academic Teams have been preparing for the yearly District competition by attending Invitational Meets and doing on-line competitions. Three of the four District competitions have been completed, with Llano carrying home 24 medals on Thursday and Saturday, March 21 and 23.

The Llano ISD Board began the March meeting by hearing comments from a concerned parent regarding the CSCOPE curriculum currently used by Llano ISD. Board President Ronnie Rudd said, “Due to concerns raised in Austin and locally, it is deemed prudent to evaluate where the District is on CSCOPE. Rudd proposed a committee consisting of parents, administrators and other highly qualified individuals be formed to review the CSCOPE curriculum.

Llano Junior High will host a special Scholastic Book Fair, beginning on March 18 and continuing through March 22, to help raise funds for new library books and reading awards for its students.
The book fair will be open each day from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and will feature a wide range of books for young teens and adults, including mystery and adventure novels, fantasy trilogies, sports guides, manga, and the latest bestsellers from more than 150 publishers.

On Friday, February 22, Llano Elementary School recognized students for exhibiting justice. James Scott, Llano High School Principal, praised the students for exhibiting justice. He discussed how the word “justice” is a part of the Pledge of Allegiance and why it is so important. Cookies and juice were provided by the cafeteria staff.

Wow! I know its cliché, but time flies when you’re having fun! We finished up the first semester with a bang and are currently wrapping up another successful six weeks at Llano Jr. High. LJH had stellar representation at the regional band competition and put on an amazing Christmas concert.

Llano ISD Board President announced today that he will ask the Board of Trustees at its March 18 meeting to approve having a comprehensive review of the district’s CSCOPE curriculum.
“I envision the review to be performed by a person or persons who are completely independent of the administration or who have an interest in either the development or sale of CSCOPE.
