First Baptist Church, Llano If depression was not a universal experience that people can relate to, there would have been no need to include it in the ad. I think the opposite was the case: that whether people want to admit it or not, depression is common and pervasive. I would be interested to know just how many responded, or even thought about responding to the sign based on feelings of depression, alone. Chances are, many of us have struggled with some degree of depression, in spite of ...
It was a Monday evening right after supper and the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and I were watching TV. The next morning as we were finishing breakfast my wife said, “The girls and I will be going thrift store shopping today and therefore you are on your own.” I had to sit down a little bit and try to catch my breath.
A certain situation has been building in the parsonage for the last several months. At first, I did not think it too serious but alas, we have reached a terrible impasse. It started a few months ago when I came home, walked into the house and was hit in the face so hard I almost passed out.
By Dr. James L. Snyder The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and me recently celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary. It sure does not seem we have been married that long. I guess, as you get older, according to my grandmother, time goes faster. If that is true, I must be getting older. We met in September, became engaged in February of the following year, and in August of that year we had our “I do” ceremony. We have had quite a trip down through these years.
Dr. James L. Snyder I was having a rather down day recently. You know how it is; you are going along 100 miles an hour and finally you crash. I was experiencing one of those reality crashes. Reclining in my chair, drinking coffee, I thought of one of my old friends. Oh my, he has been gone for almost five years now.
Castell is home of one of the first churches established in Llano County. Much of the town’s history lies within Trinity United Methodist Church, but it is the settlers of Castell who paved the way for 167 years of worship and service for Methodists. A man of many who make up the rich history of the church is Reverend Charles A.
The doorknocker at our home’s entrance sits astride a plaque containing the following quote of Joshua (of wall falling fame): “AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD,” an appropriate goal for any father at any time, but an especially fitting one to ponder on Father’s Day. Who was this committed father whose words expressing his family goal remain familiar to millions millennia later? Joshua had lived an exciting and sometimes dangerous life.

Grace Episcopal Church is proud to present, for the first time in the area, a Taizé Worship Service on April 9, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to experience this simplistic and meditative style of worship originating from the ecumenical Christian community in Taizé, France. Located in the Bourgogne region of France, the monastery was created by a a Reformed Protestant monk in 1940.
Sunday, Jan. 21, was Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, and was celebrated in churches around Llano with baby and family dedication services. In January of 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating Jan, 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, coinciding with the date in 1973 when the Supreme Court of the United States legalized abortion in all 50 states.
