It’s always best to start at the beginning, and in this case, that place is Germany. The Germany of the early 1840s was in upheaval. Slowing industrial expansion and aggravating urban unemployment was leading to a severe economic recession. Born of this growing concern was the Adelsverin, the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants.
As a favorite swimming hole, fishing spot and kayak landing, Schneider Slab is hard to beat, and though a great way to preserve the family name, it hardly tells the whole story... Heinrich Ludwig Schneider was born in 1815 in Langenbach, Herzotum, Dutch of Nassau, Germany. In September, 1845 he and his wife Anna Catherina, her daughter Mina Hissgen, and their two sons, Christian and Wilhelm, sailed for Texas, arriving in December, 1845.
On Tuesday, October 1, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) County Executive Director in Mason and Llano County, Randy Maenius, announced that ranchers and livestock producers may be eligible for assistance from the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) for grazing losses incurred in 2019. MARBLE FALLS—On October 18, Phoenix Center, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing critical mental health care to local children and families, will move to its permanent location in Horseshoe Bay. The new Phoenix Center site is located at 3340 W SH 71, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, approximately 2.5 miles from the intersection of highways 281 and 71. Phoenix Center will move to temporary mobile office buildings while the state-of-the-art mental health clinic is constructed.
The hot weather did not deter members and guests who gathered at Save the World Brewery on Monday, Sep. 9, for the Highland Lakes Democratic Women’s Fall Fundraiser and Membership Social. The crowd of 50 welcomed several new members and enjoyed a great selection of beers and snacks, all while supporting both the Brewery’s mission and HLDW’s own.
On September 28, during Castell's Winefest, Randy Leifeste will be signing copies of “Go, Cockaroo”, the novel that was inspired by his upbringing and life in the Texas Hill Country.
