The Llano High School boys basketball team enjoyed its best week of the season so far. The Yellow Jackets (8-4) are currently on a seven-game winning streak that includes being the Brady Tournament champions. Llano beat Eldorado 44-26 in the championship Dec. 9 after stinging NVTO 61-34 in the semifinals and Grape Creek 54-35 both on Dec.
Parker noted the Lady Jackets showed improved patience on the offensive end and saw the defense’s open spots. “They seem to be getting better,” he said. “These girls haven’t had a breather. At times our patience was better. We didn’t force things. As a young team, you don’t want to force things.” He noted the emphasis in practice has been to throw he 12-foot pass as opposed to the “skip pass the defense is baiting.””They’re starting to see it,” he said.
The Llano High School girls basketball team earned three wins at the Johnson City tournament Dec. 1-2. The Lady Jackets defeated South San Antonio West 35-20 Dec. 2 after beating them a day earlier 27-17 and The Woodlands Christian Academy 32-16. One reason for the winning streak, head coach Jay Parker said, is because of how the ball handlers are attacking defenses“We handled the press a lot better than we have been,” he said.
What a week for the Llano High School boys basketball team. After coming within a couple of possessions to win in their first and second games of the season, the Yellow Jackets put it all together in a big road win at Wall. Llano left no doubt in winning 49-42 Nov.
The Llano High School girls basketball team lost to Bandera 39-28 Nov. 28, to Rocksprings 56-20 Nov. 21 and San Saba 59-17 Nov. 20. San Saba is expected to contend for the District 29-2A championship with Goldthwaite and Mason this season. “We went there last year,” head coach Jay Parker said.

The Llano High School boys basketball team lost to Abilene High 47-39 Nov. 18 at Howard Payne University. It was the Yellow Jackets' season opener. "We were right there in the third quarter," head coach Landry Norwood said. "In the fourth quarter, they pulled away." The contest’s pace favored Llano at the beginning even though the Eagles led 9-7 after the first period.
The Llano High School girls basketball team competed in the Hamilton Tournament Nov. 16-18 with losses to Goldthwaite 56-23, Comanche 64-27, Lorena 66-4 and McGregor 39-35 in double overtime. “McGregor is a lot like us,” Llano head coach Jay Parker said. “They’re very physical, they hustle. The effort is there; they play hard.
The Llano High School girls basketball team beat Cherokee 35-29 Nov. 11 for its first victory of the 2023-24 season. The Lady Jackets showed their might in the first and third quarters where they outscored Cherokee 10-6 and 17-7. “Cherokee is a lot like us,” Llano head coach Jay Parker said.
Familiar names are on the Llano High School 2023-24 boys basketball roster that oozes with talent, motivation and commitment to excellence. They are seniors Derrick Baker, Weston Baker, who is the reigning District 5-3A Most Valuable Player, Owen Brooks, Alex Kachura, Dylan Kennedy, Fitz Kennedy, Reece Martinez, Parker Parrish and Charlie White and junior Keagan Bush.
